The village stands on a hill 140 metres above sea level. It is surrounded by a series of valleys with numerous caves used by the island's first inhabitants. Mellieha also has a beautiful sandy beach with warm shallow waters for swimming. It is ideally placed for trips to Gozo, the ferry being only a few minutes from the village. The beautiful clear Mediterranean Sea is ideal for swimming, snorkelling and scuba diving. The sea is a rich source of delicious fresh fish which we recommend you try at the local restaurants. The village has many restaurants, with enough variety to suit all tastes as well as providing you with an endless selection of local wines and beer.

There are plenty of small shops that offer a friendly service with free deliveries for those people who are self-catering. Mellieha also has two larger supermarkets that offer a wide variety of goods. Local fruit and vegetables are delivered fresh from the market every morning. Fresh Maltese bread, which is said to be some of the best in the world, is baked locally every day in traditional ovens.

There are three pharmacies with doctor in attendance daily. Souvenir and craft shops abound. Coffee and traditional Maltese delicacies can be enjoyed at the many pavement cafes...
